Weekly History Challenge

For the question posted on: 01/01/07

In the wee hours of New Year's Day 1915, Alvin York made a promise to his mother (who had been praying for him, for many years) that he would quit drinking, smoking, chewing, fighting, and gambling. He decided then and there to dedicate his life to God! In 1917 the United States declared war on Germany and soon thereafter Alvin York was drafted and sent off to Europe. On October 8th, 1918 as a member of a patrol sent to silence a group of German machine-gun nests, York performed one of the greatest single military achievements of the war; he personally killed more than twenty Germans and took 132 prisoners all by himself.  That night after recounting the day's events in his diary, he wrote "So I am a witness to the fact that God did help me out of that hard battle; for the bushes were shot up all around me, and I never got a scratch". For his heroism York received the Congressional Medal of Honor! Name this battle where York performed these heroic acts on October 8th, 1918.

Congratulations to Mike, From Wright Patterson AFB, OH (a two time winner) on winning this weeks History Challenge by answering the Meuse-Argonne Offensive (Argonne Forrest). Mike will receive the DVD Sergeant York and be entered into the $500 cash prize drawing to be held on the 7th of July, 2007. The resource for this weeks challenge came from the book "The One Year Book of Christian History". Please check back Monday for the new History Challenge.

Tell your friends about FortPatriot.com!

In order to keep the Weekly History Challenge operating, we need to greatly increase our base of players. We have had less than 10 players per week over the last few months, which is not enough to support the cost. I realize this might be to your disadvantage, however if we have more people playing and buying from us or our affiliate partners then we can offer better prizes and continue to operate. So, please tell your friends about us by clicking here.
