Lew Wallace was born on April 10th 1827 in Brookville, Indiana. He went on to serve his country in many ways including: a first Lieutenant in the Mexican War, a lawyer, a State Senator, a General in the Union Army (during the Civil War), a governor of the New Mexico Territory; and as U.S. Minister to the Ottoman Empire from 1881 to 1885. However, he is most remember as a author of this famous book "****** A tale of the Christ", in which it grew to be the best selling American novel of the 19th century. The book has never been out of print and has been filmed four times. The book was also, the first work of fiction to be blessed by a pope.
