Weekly History Challenge - 5/21/07

This weeks prize is the Book "War Stories II : Heroism in the Pacific" by Oliver North.

This Naval Battle took place in May of 1942 where the American and Japanese fleets engaged in the first naval battle in history fought solely by carrier-launched aircraft (no ship on either side made any visual contact with any enemy ship). The Battle's action resulted from a Japanese amphibious operation intended to capture Port Moresby, located on New Guinea's southeastern coast. Most History Books call the battle a draw, with both sides losing a carrier and the American carrier Yorktown suffering what most thought was crippling damage, leaving only the carriers Lexington and Hornet in the Pacific to confront the entire Japanese fleet.  The diversion of Japanese resources represented by the battle would also have immense consequences a month later, at the Battle of Midway. Name this Naval Battle!
