"I am well aware of the toil and blood and treasure that it will cost us to maintain this Declaration, and support and defend these States. Yet through all the gloom I can see rays of ravishing light and glory. I can see that the end is worth more than all the means." - John Adams

Weekly History Challenge - 7/02/07 This weeks prize is two 8oz bags of "Boca Java Coffee"
On July 4th, 1776 the Continental Congress adopted the final draft of the Declaration of Independence. In doing so, the fifty six signers knew that they would be considered traitors to the Crown, and therefore the line in which the delegates "mutually pledge to each other our Lives, our Fortunes, and our sacred Honor" literally exposed these heroes to execution. By the end of the war, almost every one of them had suffered greatly (lost of property, lost of family members, imprisoned, and lost of their wealth) for their stand. Because of the courage of these men we have freedom today! What made these men so brave - In the last paragraph of the declaration to whom did they rely on for protection?
