His tremendous success in combat against great odds was observed in numerous battles, including the Battle of Bull Run, Shenandoah Valley, Cross Keys, Port Republic, Seven Day's Battle, and the Second Battle of Bull Run. When he died, General Lee exclaimed, "I have lost my right arm."
